ECMC Commissioners visit to engage, listen, and learn about local community perspectives

Denver, CO (Sep. 07, 2023) - The Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) will travel to Southwest Colorado to visit oil and gas sites, meet with stakeholders, and host public meetings in Durango and Cortez. At the public meetings, the Commission will provide information about ECMC’s new name and expanded mission, which was formerly the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission.

“On July 1, the Commission became the Colorado Energy & Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) with an expanded regulatory scope to include deep geothermal, carbon capture and storage, and underground natural gas storage, as well as continuing regulating the development and production of oil and gas. The name is new, but the mission of the ECMC is still to regulate in a manner that is protective of public health, safety, welfare, wildlife and the environment,” said ECMC Chair Jeff Robbins. “These visits to communities are critical to learn about their unique issues and concerns, to provide information on the new technologies ECMC will regulate, to hear what is important to the communities, and to provide information on how to participate at the ECMC, including upcoming rulemakings.”
