Mission Change’s 800, 900 and 1200 Draft Series & Rulemaking Schedule available

Denver, CO (May 04, 2020) - The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) today announced that the Mission Change rulemaking schedule and additional draft proposed Mission Change rules have been published. The recently released drafts include the 800 Series on Underground Injection Control Wells, the 900 Series on Environmental Impact Prevention, and the 1200 Series on Protection of Wildlife Resources.

“These draft rules are intended to spark discussion amongst all our diverse stakeholders, which is critical to our success in developing the best rules to protect public health, safety, welfare, wildlife and the environment,” said COGCC Director Jeff Robbins. “We are looking forward to working with all our partners over the summer on this critical rulemaking,” said COGCC Director Robbins.

Last month, the COGCC noticed for rulemaking the 300, 400, 500 and 600 Series Rules that reflect SB 19-181’s new mission to “regulate” instead of “foster” oil and gas development.

About SB 19-181:
SB 19-181 ensures that oil and gas development and operations in Colorado are regulated in a manner that protects public health, safety, welfare, the environment and wildlife resources. The COGCC is in the midst of reviewing its rules and procedures to evaluate what changes are required to reflect the new law’s requirements. On Nov. 21, 2019, the Commission adopted Flowline rules. The Commission will take up additional SB 19-181 rulemakings at future Commission hearings and will seat a new 5-member Professional Commission on July 1, 2020.
